Great food, comfy rooms – and perhaps Sussex's best pub garden
This pub has perhaps the loveliest pub garden in Sussex, but even without this it would be a gorgeous spot, deep in the countryside in the pretty village of Fletching, a family-friendly place with bags of charm – beams, panelled walls and cheerily blazing log fires in winter. There’s a daily-changing bar menu on the blackboard and a separate menu in the more formal restaurant, both making the most of local ingredients: fish from Rye Bay, venison and game from local farmers, and vegetables from Fletching’s market garden. The pub also has 13 very comfortable guest rooms that you can stay over in – 4 fairly traditional rooms in the beamed upper floor of the main building, 4 brighter, more contemporary rooms in a converted woodshed, all with 4-posters, and 5 beautifully decorated, quirky rooms in the house next door, one of which is named after local resident and pub regular, Colin Thubron. All the guest rooms have en-suite bathrooms with toiletries, and they’re all set up with big comfy beds, good wifi, flatscreen TVs and DVD players.
