The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite

This is the perfect place to use as a base to explore the popular north lakes area – there is so much to see and do around here from local history to boat cruises and high-octane mountain biking in nearby Whinlatter Forest.  Many people will head to the ever-popular town of Keswick, just a short drive to the south, but an equally short drive west will take you to Cockermouth, birthplace of William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian.

The Pheasant Inn is hidden well away from the main road and surrounded by woodland but is very easy to access and has plenty of parking.  The bar area is open and airy with plenty of nooks and crannies to tuck yourself away into and partitions that give it a bit of a wild west feel.

There are plenty of local brews to choose from and, unsurprisingly as it’s a very short drive away, a good selection of Lakes Distillery gins and liqueurs. And if you enjoy a Sunday roast, then you’re in luck as the Sunday lunch here is legendary.
