Bitter End

Cockermouth is home to Jennings brewery, whose beers are found all over the Lakes and beyond, so all hail the Bitter End, a fab little independent microbrewery and pub, hidden away up a Cockermouth side street. It might be Cumbria’s smallest brewery, but the beers are excellent – with wacky names like Cocker Snoot and Cuddy Lugs – while the bar meals are really popular. The meat in particular (steaks, rack of lamb) is all locally sourced, and there’s always a fish special on too, from oven-roast cod to seared tuna.
