Old Post House

A hop, skip and jump across the road from the National History Museum in St Fagans, the Old Post House does the job if you’re in search of something a little more restful than most of the other Cardiff options. This lovely, whitewashed building was both a post office and a police station in a former life, but now harbours a fine contemporary guesthouse – family-owned and run by a local couple and a very welcoming place indeed. It has five rooms in total, each one slightly different on account of the building’s architectural quirks, but all furnished to a high standard with a restful palette of cool creams, blues and greens throughout. The rooms are large and well-equipped and one has a sofa bed so is ideal for families. They serve a great afternoon tea, and, handily, there’s a pub right next door too.
