The nearest pub to the train station (very handy for the holiday steam train services), the Station Inn also happens to be the best real ale pub in town. It's a resolutely welcoming place, packed to the rafters with Morris dancers and the like during the annual August folk festival, and you're guaranteed a good pint with a ridiculous name whenever you visit (there are up to eight real ales on at any one time). There's lots of live music here throughout the year too – beards and sandals yes, but also some belting blues and rock.
