The Library

2A Guildhall Hill, Norwich NR2 1JD

One of a small local chain, owned by the Raffles family, this excellent restaurant occupies the sympathetically modernized old town library complete with the original bookshelves. There’s nothing bookish about the menu, though, which features locally sourced produce, much of it cooked on a wood-fired grill – try the braised venison and chestnut pie with red cabbage and new potatoes; they also do a great burger and always have a veggie option or two. The  service can be a bit slapdash, but the cooking is always good, and it's a convivial joint, with a loud and lively vibe that's about as far from a library as you can get! The same people also own Pinocchio's on St Benedicts St, five minutes' walk away.
