Restaurant DH1

The Avenue Durham City DH1 4DX

A rebrand for the restaurant at the fine Victorian-era hotel Farnley Tower, has seen Restaurant DH1 take over from the old Gourmet Spot. But with chef Stephen Hardy still at the helm, though now as co-owner with his wife Helen, the contemporary British menus are still up-to-the-minute and on-the-button – slow-cooked belly pork, braised onions and Yorkshire rhubarb is typical, with some wildly indulgent desserts to follow. As is the way these days, you can go a la carte or sample the tasting menu for a more in-depth experience – we like that there's a full veggie tasting menu too, showing real inventive flair.
