The gorgeous old sandstone building – once the Almshouse – occupies a prime spot on the fringes of Palace Green, right by the cathedral. Grab an outdoor patio seat and this is the single best place for taking in the university scene. Breakfast is served up until 11am, after which there's a varied cafe menu that runs from Thai curry to a more locally inspired pease pudding.
