Rusacks St Andrews

There are some places in St Andrews that just shriek tradition, like the iconic 19th-century hotel building overlooking the Old Course links. This is old-school boutique, from the elegant, clubbable lounges to the library with a snooker table, where the large, beautifully appointed rooms take their inspiration from Highland colours, textures and designs. There’s bespoke furniture, baronial headboards, and swirling carpets and wallpaper, while many rooms boast stunning, big-sky views over the Old Course and West Sands beach – golf aficionados are pointed towards the 18th View Double or Deluxe Suite for the best views in the hotel. Some rooms are in the new extension, but there’s no dilution of  style or atmosphere.

It’s pretty golf-heavy throughout, even in the dining places – the all-day, family-friendly bistro, The Bridge, or the glass-fronted, rooftop restaurant and bar, 18, with more golf course views and a sizzling, open-flame menu. But look, if you weren’t a fan of St Andrews tradition and golf, you wouldn’t be here, and as you are, you’re going to love it all, right down to the wee dram you’ll have later in the hotel’ pubby One Under Bar.
