Dogs are top at the Hare and Hounds, a boutique country house hotel in the Cotswolds, just outside the small market town of Tetbury. Set in its own extensive grounds, it's a thoroughly comfortable place to stay, with dog friendly rooms and extensive grounds for them to enjoy themselves in. Although dogs aren't allowed in the rather fancy, 2 AA–rosette restaurant, which serves excellent food in a formal environment, they are permitted in the bar, where they can eat with their owners and enjoy their own special doggy menu; you can also eat with your hound on the outside terrace, overlooking the lovely gardens. There are 42 guest rooms in all, of which around a quarter are dog friendly; they divide between the main house, where the rooms are quite traditional, and a newer block with more contemporary rooms. They also have a cottage for 2 in the grounds with a hot tub and its own garden. Finally, the location is great, with the amazing Westonbirt Arboretum around the corner. Home to the country's largest collection of native trees – 15,000 in all – this makes a perfect place to wander with your hound once you've exhausted the delights of the hotel.
