The Edward Hotel
UK England South West England Gloucestershire Gloucester
Boutique Gloucester city centre hotel with a welcoming, personal vibe.
At just a ten-minute walk from the centre and cathedral, the Edward Hotel is one of Gloucester's most comfortable and convenient small hotels. Occupying three knocked-together grade-II-listed Victorian town houses, it's also family-run and extremely welcoming, with a selection of boutique-style rooms with fast wifi, a small bar and private parking with charging units – in short, many of the benefits of a larger hotel, but with a more personal vibe and staff that really seem to care about the quality of your stay.
The hotel has 25 guest rooms, all of them decorated in a fresh contemporary style with neutral walls contrasting with boldly coloured textiles and headboards. They all feature comfy beds (king-or super-king-size in the larger rooms), flatscreen TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities, desks and seating and well-appointed en-suite bathrooms, 3 of which have baths (the rest just showers). There's a kitchenette where guests can make drinks and simple meals, and some rooms have small fridges, including the a couple of family rooms that can sleep 3-4 people.
The hotel provides a lock-up for bikes so it's a great choice for cyclists; it's also an ideal base for seeing the city – not least because its 'gallery' of photos provides a great deal of inspiration before setting out. But overall it's just a friendly, city centre hotel, handy for everything and with a nice attitude to go with it – check it out for yourself.
