Eco-luxury nature glamping retreat in Pembrokeshire, surrounded by ancient woodlands and wild meadows, close to stunning beaches, and with awe-inspiring dark skies
At Top of the Woods, it’s easy to lose yourself – but not in the traditional sense! From the moment you arrive, Soo and Jon welcome you and hand you the ‘secret waterfall map’, giving a sense of this special, secluded spot. You’ll feel yourself escaping into nature, surrounded by the luxury of space, wildlife and adventure, with an opportunity to slow down, relax and reconnect with the people you love. The atmosphere here is effortlessly laid-back eco-luxury, with a variety of fully self-catering glamping styles to choose from including four huge and luxurious Safari Lodges, nine adventure glamping Pioneer Lodges, and four geodesic Nature Domes, spread across 27 acres of car-free wild meadows and next to a vast 325-acre woodland, with epic views of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
Every glamping option has a wood-burning stove for heating, Welsh-made wool blankets, and a hot water bottle to keep you super cosy. They all have proper beds with good quality linen, lanterns, rugs, and cushions, plus a hammock, firepit and BBQ outside. The huge Safari Lodges (6.3x11 metres) sleep up to six and come with electricity, a fridge, an open-plan kitchen and dining area with bespoke furniture and wooden flooring, plus their own private toilet and shower. The Nature Domes sleep up to four and have an en-suite enclosed camp kitchen with running water, a two-ring gas hob and a cool box, and are nearest to the main courtyard where you'll find hot showers and flushing loos. Meanwhile, the Pioneer Camp features nine large lodge tents sleeping up to four, comprising two-bedroom compartments and a living area. For cooking and eating, you have a wagon-style covered camp kitchen and dining space, equipped with cast-iron pans, Dutch ovens, and everything else you need.
For the campers, there's a car-free five-acre meadow with large grass pitches surrounding a wildflower meadow and new woodland. Additionally, you'll find two extra-large grass pitches suitable for cars and light campervans with an electric hook-up – named the 'Friends, Power & Park' pitches, they're perfect for small groups.
Just beyond the meadows lie Ffynone Wood, a breathtaking 325-acre expanse of ancient and plantation woodland. Afon Dulas, the stream that winds its way along the southern edge of the property, invites you to pause, breathe and listen to the gentle flow of water as it winds through the forest. You might be lucky enough to spot a resident or two of the largest badger population in West Wales, or maybe an elusive otter slipping into the river. For many, the true magic of Top of the Woods is found in a self-guided journey to the ‘secret waterfall’, hidden deep within the woods. The path winds through centuries-old plantation trees, leading to a magical spot –ideal for an invigorating wild swim and your chance to be immersed in nature.
The site is part of Penrallt Farm, a quaint 18th-century farmstead with a family of Kunekune pigs you can take cute selfies with, and farm sheds that are home to barn owls, house martins, migrating swallows and rare breeds of bats (the farm hosts at least seven of the UK's 17 protected species). They've won sustainable tourism awards every year over the past 11 years and are a thoroughly eco-friendly nature haven.
Wandering around, you'll notice the Dutch Barn shed, serving as huge, covered guest spaces for relaxation, a picnic and meeting area, and the place pop-up food nights are hosted. It includes a hammock garden and phone-charging points with a camping communal fridge, freezer, microwave and washing-up sinks. Perhaps more importantly, you can order Jonny’s pizza, made in a wood-fired oven (available on different days, depending on the time of year). Oh, and every Friday and Sunday, you can treat yourself to a hot farmhouse breakfast. Another hangout spot is Soo’s Shed, filled with tables and chairs, a sofa, football and a stash of board and card games for anyone to use, where you can also make the most of the free WiFi (available in the courtyard, too). A small Welsh Gift shop sells items from local businesses, plus camping essentials like kindling, firelighters and marshmallows. For wider needs, Soo and Jon recommend heading to Boncath, Cilgerran or Cardigan.
There are any number of activities to enjoy, from free Barn cinema nights and wild foraging to bookable yoga, meditation and stargazing safaris. They also offer curated all-inclusive weekends (food, accommodation and experience) where you can 'Find Your Wild' and have a nature adventure, such as River Trek, SUP (stand-up paddleboard) or Coasteering. Or, wander the two-acre onsite Wild Trails, with approximately 4,000 new trees planted – one for every booking made. Come 2025, they're launching a new nature outdoor spa with a sauna, plunge pool, and relaxation garden where you can watch epic sunsets.
Top of the Woods boasts a prime location in the heart of Pembrokeshire, next to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, Pembrokeshire Coast Path, Ffynone Wood, and the Preseli Hills. The nearby Teifi Gorge offers stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and canoeing, while attractions like Cardigan Castle, the Welsh Wildlife Centre in the Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve, and wild beaches are just 20 minutes away. There's so much on your doorstep, but you might find yourself spending a lot of time on-site, exploring the woodland, relaxing in the hammocks, or enjoying a picnic in the sun. There's so much to discover here – why leave?

One of our favourite things to do is simply step straight from the site into the surrounding woodland, following hand-drawn trails to secret waterfalls and quiet picnic spots. It’s a gentle, immersive way to explore nature without needing to get in the car.
A short drive away, the beaches of Poppit Sands and Mwnt are firm favourites, both perfect for long walks, swimming and dolphin spotting in Cardigan Bay. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path offers spectacular walking in every direction, from dramatic clifftop sections to peaceful estuary routes.
For more adventurous days, guests love coasteering, kayaking and paddleboarding along the coast or river adventures in the Teifi Gorge. Cycling and e-bike routes through the countryside and Preseli Hills are also popular, as is wildlife watching, with seals, seabirds and dolphins regularly spotted nearby.
Top of the Woods sits in a quiet rural corner of North Pembrokeshire, surrounded by meadows, woodland and views towards the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Despite the sense of seclusion, a good range of attractions are within easy reach.
Nearby highlights include dolphin-watching boat trips in Cardigan Bay, the Iron Age village at Castell Henllys, horse riding at local riding centres, and Cardigan a thriving market town with independent shops, cafés and galleries. The area is ideal for guests who want a peaceful base with easy access to wild beaches, coastal paths and outdoor adventures.

The Ffynnone Arms and The Nags Head, are just 5-10 minute drive from the site, both long-standing local favourites, known for their warm welcome, good beer and hearty food. For essentials and picnic supplies, Siop Y Pentre is around ten minutes away.
A little further afield, the nearby towns of Cardigan and Newport offer a good choice of independent cafés, pubs and restaurants, with a strong focus on locally sourced, seasonal produce. Fresh seafood, artisan bakeries and relaxed coastal dining are all easy to find in the area.

We’ve carefully shaped the site to balance comfort with a low-impact approach, from eco-friendly glamping and wildflower meadows to shared spaces that bring people together. Evenings might be spent around the campfire, watching a film in the barn, sharing food at a pop-up supper, or unwinding in the Wild Spa as the light fades.
What makes Top of the Woods special is its sense of freedom, car-free meadows, woodland trails from the doorstep, secret waterfalls to discover, and the feeling of being properly immersed in nature, while still enjoying thoughtful facilities and a warm welcome.
