Bell tents and shepherd’s huts with hot tubs on a Cotswolds farm.

There's a subtlety to the T Barn that is typical of the Cotswolds. First of all there's no sign to direct you there.  Instead, you receive detailed instructions from your host, Eloise, which help you navigate from the honey-stoned pub in Barnsley village down country lanes to the right field on the right farm. Second, there is a T-Barn – a beautiful old Cotswold stone barn – but that's not where you stay. Instead the T-Barn and the farm that it sits on is home to three shepherd huts, three bell tents (and seven grass pitches for proper campers) – a perfect place for gorgeous glamping, with the barn as an added bonus.

There’s a meadow for shepherds huts and another for camping at opposite ends of this 850-acre dairy farm – deliberately separate so as to preserve both seclusion for the adults-only shepherd’s huts and the sociable feel of the family-friendly campsite. The latter is a simple site with a handful of pitches and three comfortably furnished bell tents, each of which can accomodate four people;  bedding is included, as are campfires in a stone-circled fire pit but otherwise it's all off-grid, with shared and facilities set up for each season.

The shepherd’s huts, on the other hand, are luxurious by comparison, all self-contained and each with en-suite facilities and their own wood-fired hot tubs. But it's just as beautiful – and natural – a spot, with no buildings or roads in view, just the field and the trees of a neighbouring woodland. Look out for mistle thrushes and the resident barn owl who’s often spotted swooping by.

The farm surrounds the tiny village of Barnsley and it’s a 10–15 minute walk from both meadows to The Village Pub (that’s it’s name – honest). It’s got a nice garden for summer, roaring fires for winter and a great menu whenever you visit. And, of course, this is the Cotswolds so there are longer walks, and plenty of great pubs and lovely villages starting with neighbouring Bibury – claimed by William Morris to be 'the most beautiful village in England'. There's also plenty to do with kids: horse riding, cycling, and South Cerney Lake, where you can sail, kayak or paddleboard until it’s time for your next campfire.

Nearby

Glorious, rambling countryside, honey coloured stone picturesque villages, quaint English scenes and rare wildlife make up the Cotswolds - England’s largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The T Barn sits in the pretty village of Barnsley, a small village with the Village Pub and Barnsley House Hotel offering fabulous food and gardens. Garden lovers will appreciate Rosemary Veery’s distinguished garden design at the hotel, once her home. The farm itself is a beautiful spot and one that we are committed to sharing with others, the land rolls outwards across the valley providing lush pastures for the cows... and campers!

Food & Drink

The Village Pub and Barnsley House Hotel are a short walk from the huts and summer camp. We also love The Stump, 10 minute drive or 1 hour walk for a sourdough pizza or rotisserie on Sundays. Bibury is the neighbouring village, perfect spot for an ice cream besides the river. The New Inn at Coln is a 1.5 hour walk (10 minute drive) and does a great burger. We also can provide dinner or breakfast hampers for your fire pit or an afternoon cream tea - just add to your booking.

Open

Shepherds huts: all year. Bell tents & camping: April–October.

Getting There

The village of Barnsley is on the B4425 – south of Burford and north of Cirencester. Once you are in the village there are different instructions for each part of the site and Eloise sends out detailed instructions after booking.

Getting to the T Barn shepherd’s hut or campsite by public transport is possible but takes planning. The closest railway station is at Kemble, nine miles from site. From there you would need to take a taxi to site (probably a good idea to book in advance) or to cycle if you’re bringing a bike. Alternatively national coach services stop at Cirencester, a little closer to site. From there, taxis are more easily available or you could take a bus to Barnsley. There are just a few a day and none on Sundays. It’s a ten-minute walk from the bus stop to the camping field or shepherd’s huts.
