- Eco-Pods & Hoggit Houses
- Off the Beaten Track
Get right off-grid at this countryside glampsite in a beautiful farmland setting, where peace and quiet and deep, dark skies await. You can pitch a tent or campervan on the rustic six-acre site at 700-year-old Baxby Manor – everyone gets a campfire pit, and there are hot showers, sinks and loos in a modern, spotless, heated facilities block. Three chalet-style wooden eco-pods and some cute hoggit houses take care of the glamping end of the market, but it's all very low-key and eco-friendly – so, no electricity and barbecue or camp-stove cooking only, but candles and lanterns are provided, and the shower-water is heated by a biomass boiler. Peace and quiet is what you're promised and it's what you'll get too – it's definitely not for big groups, party people or late-night revellers, and there's a strict keep-it-down policy between 11pm and 7am.
It's the extras that really make this place – like the alpacas that sometimes come to visit, the farm eggs that you can buy, or the fact that the local butcher calls on request and there's a purpose-built on-site Pizza shack (The Pizza Shack@Baxby Manor) which is open every day during school holidays for breakfasts and homemade stone-baked pizzas. You're a short walk from Husthwaite village (a couple of miles off the A19), where there's a pub and a shop; and nearby attractions include Coxwold (2.5 miles away), Thirsk (9 miles) and Sutton Bank (12 miles), so the location's great for the west side of the North York Moors National Park. Check out also their fabulous self-catering Treehouse, Rufus's Roost, nearby.
