The new cycle hire-and-ride outfit at Sutton Bank National Park Centre is great for families wanting a day out in the western half the national park. The 'Cliff Trail' is already open – a 3-mile route out across the Sutton Bank escarpment, with amazing views for company. Longer and slightly more challenging trails are due to open later this year, heading out on the existing bridleway and minor road network in this lovely part of North Yorkshire. The guys at Sutton Bank Bikes have plenty of experience behind them – they also run the bike outfit at the mountain-biking centre in Dalby Forest – and offer a full-service cycle shop too, plus bike wash facilities. We love skills area, where you can practice some silky cycle routines, and the wood-burner inside the shop is great to get the circulation going after a winter ride. There's also a café in the adjacent National Park Centre.
