Champing in the UK
What is Champing? It's the unique concept of camping overnight in some of Britain's most beautiful and ancient churches. It's a comfortable and affordable way to go, and it would be hard to find a more atmospheric place to bed down for the night than a medieval church! Best of all, the small amount you pay goes to the upkeep of these churches, so by supporting Champing, you’re also helping to preserve these ancient spaces for the future. Oh, and you get the whole place to yourself for the night. It is, as they say, a 'Sleepover with Soul'!
Breakfast is not included, but at most churches, you can find excellent breakfast venues nearby. At All Saints, Laxfield, you can even have your breakfast delivered! All churches provide a kettle, crockery and cutlery, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar, glasses and a corkscrew and bottle-opener, and occasionally a microwave. Sometimes, there's a proper kitchen in an adjacent building or church hall. The churches are decorated with lanterns, candles and fairy lights, and you'll sleep on camp beds, set up for you on arrival. There's always a toilet on the premises, and most Champing churches are dog-friendly. The prices stay the same throughout the year and are kept deliberately low – from £55 a person per night. Of course, each church is different, and once you've booked a Champing experience, you'll receive a full information pack with specific info on your chosen church. Happy Champing!
