Five Sisters Zoo

The title zoo is a bit grand for the cute lo-fi Five Sisters in West Lothian, which is currently recovering after a serious fire. It is more of a family park dotted with an array of interesting small animals and birds, play areas and a whoppingly large soft play centre, ideal for families. What has really
put it on the map, though, is 2012’s arrival of the second most famous bears in
Scotland (after, of course, Edinburgh’s pandas). Animals in captivity is always
a tricky subject, but here at least the trio of bears – Carmen, Peggy and Suzy
– are better off than previously, as circus bears, and the run they
have is spacious, with plenty of vegetation and tree cover. Bears aside, there
are plenty of opportunities to handle and feed smaller animals at what is as relaxed and friendly a zoo as you will find in the UK.
