Walk from Worth Matravers to Winspit

Worth Matravers, Dorset

Start at the little green in the village of Worth Matravers for a great 1.5-mile walk to the former coastal quarry at Winspit. The signed path runs down a steep, green valley to the jagged coast. Much of this area has been quarried for centuries for the distinctive Purbeck stone. Windspit is now deserted, leaving a few derelict houses and a series of distinctly unstable-looking quarry caves. Most are freely accessible, though the dangerous ones have been fenced off – others are closed to protect nesting bats.
