Kettle’s Yard
Castle Street, Cambridge CB3 0AQ
Part of the University of Cambridge, this is not your usual art gallery, but it is one of the city's best artistic sights.. You’re encouraged to sit on chairs and leaf through books in the former home of Jim Ede, both a stylish cottage filled with his objets d’art and a gallery of work by friends he made as a Tate Gallery curator in the 1930s: paintings by Ben and Winifred Nicholson, Christopher Wood, David Jones and Joan Miro, sculpture by Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. A gallery space hangs exhibitions of 20th-century art and creative kids’ art events a few times a month.
