Midsummer House

Midsummer Common Cambridge CB4 1HA

A short menu of perfectly balanced, creative cuisine is conjured up by Daniel Clifford, the chef responsible for East Anglia’s only two-Michelin-star restaurant. A tasting menu (£72.50) introduces such delights as pumpkin velouté with mushroom jelly or langoustine and cuttlefish risotto, while adventures a la carte offer roasted monkfish with caramelised chicory and pork belly or duck fizzing with potato and lime purée. All is sensational, and the set lunch menus provide good value. For a top-flight restaurant it’s quite informal – just 12 tables in the conservatory of a Victorian villa, waited on by friendly staff.
