Nel's Nest

For a perfect farm stay for two in a romantic shepherd's hut, it's hard to beat Nel's Nest, situated on a quiet and beautiful Anglesey farm on the outskirts of Llangefni, in the centre of the island. Run by Jason and Ann Thomas, it's not the sort of place to go if you want live the high life. But if you're a couple looking for somewhere to get away from it all and get back to nature, you couldn't do much better than this. For a start, you are very well located to explore this corner of northern Wales, getting out on the fantastic selection of walking and cycle trails in the countryside around, including Anglesey's own scenic coastal path. You can discover the legend of Santes Dwynwen on Llanddwyn Island, from where the views of Snowdonia are stunning. Then there's the hut itself, which is very snug and sleeps two comfortably. It has a wood-burning stove to keep you warm during winter and cosy on cool summer evenings, and there's an outdoor shelter for cooking; bedding, crockery and cutlery and basic cooking equipment are all provided, as are tea, coffee, sugar and cooking oil and games and books for rainy days. There's also outside seating for that all-important evening glass of wine while you contemplate the beauty of the scenery around and think about toasting a marshmallow or two on the campfire. You can also make the most of the fact that you're on a proper farm – meeting the sheep and feeding the lambs during the season, and collecting freshly laid eggs from the chickens and ducks – though Jason and Ann do also give you a welcome pack that includes a pack of bacon and sausages, a loaf of bread, butter, milk and eggs, as well as more frivolous items like marshmallows for toasting and even a bottle of wine. There's no wifi so you can basically forget about anything else and surrender yourself to a spot of proper relaxation.
