Deepdale Backpackers & Camping
An energetic and enterprising business, situated in an excellent position just off the main coastal road, in the heart of Burnham Deepdale, this wonderful campsite-cum-hostel-cum café and information centre has been around for years, and has recently received a loving and extensive revamp from its original owners. With multiple grass pitches and a backpackers hostel, it's long been the heart and soul of this coastal village – and not just because of the diversity and excellence of its accommodation, but also for the shops and cafés of Dalegate Market next door, its annual Christmas Market and regular summer activities and events. If you want to explore this part of the North Norfolk Coast on a budget, there's no better place.
There are around 75 basic camping pitches for tents, campervans and motorhomes (sorry, no caravans) and of course the backpackers hostel, which has both beds in dormitories and private en-suite rooms. Hostelling, old school camping, or a spot of romantic glamping – it's basically up to you.
There are also diversions a-plenty in and around Burnham Deepdale. Kick-start the morning with a coffee at the café, browse the shops and pop-up retailers at the market ,or check out the site's excellent information centre and shop, and then hire a bike or slip on your walking boots. You can follow the nearby coastal path in either direction (west to Hunstanton or east to Wells), or just mess around in the marshes to your heart's content, before lunch at the excellent and renowned White Horse or Jolly Sailors – both in the village. You won't want to leave.
The Owner Says
Deepdale Backpackers & Camping is in Burnham Deepdale on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast, approximately half way between Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea on the A149 road.
The campsite welcomes tents, campervans, motorhomes and trailer tents. (Unfortunately, due to planning restrictions, we are unable to welcome caravans.) The campsite has excellent showers and toilet facilities, and are grass paddocks that drain well, with a few hard standing fully serviced pitches.
We, the original owners, took back the business in early October 2016, after leasing it out for 7 1/2 years. We've made huge improvements since then, including a new shower and toilet facilities, electrical hookups, chemical disposal, and dividing many of the pitches with hedges and trees to soften the space and reduce the wind impact.
The backpackers hostel, beside the campsite, offers private ensuite rooms and dorms. Reception is Deepdale Visitor Information Centre, a wonderful resource for information about this beautiful part of the world.
Next door is Dalegate Market, with a fuel station, supermarket, cafe (breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea), shops, pop up shops and other useful facilities. In the village are two good pubs, and along the coast there are many other wonderful places to eat and drink.
We are an eco-friendly site, with the environment at the heart of core of the business.
Our favourite spot
Sit in our backpackers' courtyard as it floods with sunlight. Watch the sparrows busily exploring the hedges around the campsite. Enjoy the sunsets and the changing colours of the trees and fields. Relax by the fire pits during one of our music events.
The local area
We love the changing seasons and huge skies. You can enjoy a bracing walk on the beach, watch wildlife year round, take the dogs for a walk, take a moment to enjoy the views, find space to clear your head and find yourself.
Best local places to eat and drink
The North Norfolk Coast is a wonderful place to eat and drink. Next door you can get great breakfasts at Deepdale Cafe. There are two excellent pubs in the village, and many more in cycling distance. Try the local seafood, mussels in months with an 'r' in their name, lobsters, crabs, oysters, samphire and more, all seriously delicious.
