A luxury Exmoor B&B with sumptuous grounds and sensational views

There are posh B&Bs, and then there is Bossington Hall: a new-to-the-market, luxury Somerset Bed & Breakfast that not only enjoys a marvellous location, with eight acres of grounds, gardens and leisure facilities, but is also home to nine extremely comfortable, spacious guest rooms, most with wonderful views out to sea or over the moors and woodland behind. Based just outside the popular seaside village of Porlock Weir, on the edge of the mighty Exmoor National Park, there are plenty of B&Bs in the area, but we have to say, none can match the personable luxury of Bossington Hall, not to mention the glorious views. Come here once, and we guarantee you'll return.

Formerly known simply as 'Lynch House', the house was built in the early 20th century by a local shipping magnate, in a 'sunny spot' on the outskirts of Porlock, just a stone's throw from the sea. The rooms are all different, but they're generous sizes, from Heddon, the 'Master' bedroom at 54 square metres, with sea and moor panoramas and Greenaleigh with the 'best sea view' to Ivystone with garden outlooks. Even the smallest – Longpool – is 20 square metres. Because of the way the house is configured, six have en-suites, and the other three each have a private bathroom. All are spacious and well-equipped, with towels, robes and toiletries, and a couple feature rolltop baths. Beds are king-size or super-king-size (some can be twin, on request), with comfortable, quality mattresses, and rooms have good WiFi, Smart TVs, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a complimentary hospitality tray. Embercombe is dog-friendly, and two can inter-connect, making them perfect for a family with slightly older children (young kids aren't allowed). Breakfasts, meanwhile, are legendary, with a choice of Full English or Continental, and packed lunches can be provided for hungry walkers.

Bossington Hall also has more than the average crop of B&B facilities, including an EV car charging point, a private honesty bar room with a large cinema screen, a tennis court, the oldest private squash court in the country, plus a river, pond and acres of informal gardens. As of summer 2022, you can also enjoy their new sauna and wellness/massage suite for some holistic relaxation. You also couldn't be better placed for exploring Exmoor, and Porlock is only a mile away, with plenty of options for drinks and dinner. Very much a place to relax and explore both the stunning coastline and national park.

It's worth noting that Bossington Hall is available to hire exclusively, so if you're considering a gathering for up to 22 of your nearest and dearest, keep them in mind, either as self-catering or a B&B.

    We will be returning again

This is the 3rd time we have visited Bossington Hall, and yet again we were looked after amazingly. Its a great property situated on a hill with fantastic views including the sea, and it has everything locally you need. The Breakfasts are continental and English cooked to order ,and are always good. The rooms are spacious with en suites and very well decorated. We have never experienced any noise. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable of the area.
