Glasgow to Edinburgh by Canal

Falkirk Wheel Lime Road Tamfourhill Falkirk FK1 4RS

Few Scots know that you can hire a canal boat and sail all the way from the centre of Edinburgh right into the centre of Glasgow. Well, you can, and you can walk or cycle along the same route too. The Forth and Clyde and Union Canal – a contour canal with no locks – join together to provide a real green artery into both cities, as well as opening up swathes of countryside. The most spectacular feature of the canal is the towering Falkirk Wheel, which since 2002 has been transporting boats between the canals cutting out the need for a multitude of locks.
