Tiled Hall Cafe

Leeds Art Gallery, The Headrow, Leeds LS1 3AA

Leeds’ municipal caff is an absolute stunner, sited under a barrel-vaulted mosaic ceiling in an echoing, pillared Victorian chamber – formerly the reading room – that has been wonderfully restored. It’s part of the Art Gallery and Central Library building, so it’s handy for art-lovers, but frankly you’d walk halfway across the city to have a bowl of soup and a cupcake in surroundings like these. It’s just inside the Art Gallery on the left, and there’s a separate entrance from the Central Library (whose opening hours it echoes).
