Well-located between Riverside train station and pedestrianised Eton Bridge, this 11th century inn is part of a characterful mini-chain of four Thames Valley eating houses. Given a bright and airy renovation in 2011, and with a new menu from former Gordon Ramsey sous-chef Ronnie Kimbugwe, the emphasis is on local, modern cuisine. Sample Devonshire mussels, crispy Cornish whitebait or 'sustainable fish pie', then finish with a thoroughly unsustainable (for waistlines) Warm Gooey Triple Chocolate Brownie. A few outside tables offer good people-watching in summer.
