  • 8 Guest Rooms & One Suite
  • Luxury Country Hotel
An ultra-relaxed, dog-friendly country house hotel with a great restaurant and an exclusive-use spa!

Deep in the green, rolling countryside of Southwest Scotland, this extremely comfortable 18th-century house is as tranquil a place as you could imagine. Owner and Chef Adam Moore and his wife really get that peoples' needs are much more straightforward than hoteliers sometimes think: a comfortable room with a decent bed, great locally-sourced food and the ability to quickly relax and feel at home. And dogs are welcomed like old friends at an oasis that has been named 'Best Dog-Friendly Hotel in the UK'. They lay on dog beds, towels and bowls.

Trigony House has the facilities of a luxury hotel but an atmosphere that's more redolent of your best Scottish friends' country house – if, that is, your friends are superb cooks and extremely keen gardeners. Throughout the house the emphasis is on quality rather than quantity, with just nine guest rooms, all spacious and nicely (and unostentatiously) furnished in a classic style, with the primary focus on comfort: beds have hand-sprung mattresses and Egyptian cotton bed linen; all rooms come with a butler’s tray brimming with homemade shortbread, good coffee, tea and hot chocolate; and they all have good wifi, Freeview TVs and DVD players. The bathrooms are decent sizes and very well-appointed,  with either a mixed bath/shower or a separate shower and Scottish Ishga toiletries. The larger rooms have a small sitting area, and the largest, the Garden Suite, has a separate bath and shower plus its own conservatory and garden. Most either have views over the gardens and Lowther Hills to the east or over the Kier Hills to the west, while one has views over the woodland behind the hotel and the ruins of a Roman Fort.

Service throughout is gracious and as unobtrusive as you want it to be – both in the hotel and restaurant and in the 'boutique garden micro spa'. Small but perfectly formed, the spa boasts a lovely wood-fired hot tub and Finnish sauna, plus a range of holistic treatments, including various types of massages and facials. Unlike the conveyor belt-feel of some hotel spas, at Trigony each booking party gets to book the spa exclusively for a full day. This means that your and your companions have sole access to all the spa facilities on the day of your booking (do check when booking your room for availability).

Finally, the restaurant serves food that is not only delicious but highly local too, with milk from a nearby organic dairy, fish and seafood from the Solway Firth, and Galloway beef and lamb from an award-winning local butcher. Breakfast includes Ayrshire bacon and sausages and amazing local black pudding; the veggie breakfasts are great too – as are the veggie options on the main menu, which like many of the dishes are based on vegetables, herbs and fruit from their walled kitchen garden and greenhouse. Come here to eat, relax and explore the surrounding countryside.

Facilities

At Trigony we specialize in providing a relaxed home from home, but we can also organize some great activities, including mountain bike hire along with some fantastic local off road routes, Falconry experiences in the hotel grounds & Horse riding through the Nith Valley less than a mile away.

Suitable For

Personally I love room 6 for its garden & countryside views and with a cosy seating area, a super king sized bed and rainwater shower over the double ended bath it ticks all my box's.
However if you prefer more space our largest superior room, room 8 has more of the feel of a junior suite with loads of space and a great bathroom with a seperate bath and a walk in shower. All of our rooms are individually furnished and all are different whichever one you choose we will always do our best to match you with the best room for your stay.

Nearby

There is some truly beautiful countryside to explore in south west Scotland,  the beautiful river valley which we overlook follows the course of the River Nith all the way down to the Solway Coast and Caerlaverock Castle.  There are dramatic cliff top Coastal paths a wee bit further along the Coast at Sandy Hills & Rockcliffe and inland from us are the  rolling hills of the Southern Uplands -  just a couple of miles north of Trigony. If visiting castles is on your list the then they don't get much more atmospheric than the Ruins of Morton Castle on its own wee loch which is just minutes from Trigony or the rather more splendid side Drumlanrig Castle & Estate makes for a fascinating day out.

Food & Drink

We love cooking with all the wonderful local ingredients at Trigony and our guests site the food as one of the main reasons for a return stay, but we are also fortunate to have a few lovely little restaurants locally; The Auldgirth Inn a couple of miles south of Trigony has a great local reputation and the Piccola Italia in the lovely Village of Moniaive also has a good reputation. But it's also worth remembering that from Trigony you can be in Glasgow in an hour or Edinburgh in an hour and a half for a sophisticated city day out.

Pricing

Double rooms with breakfast £150-£170 a night; Garden Suite £195 a night. £15 per dog per night, and all get a welcome pack with a map of walks and gourmet treats. Maximum 2 dogs per room (negotiable).

The Owner Says

At Trigony we pride ourselves on  our relaxed atmosphere and our friendly local staff; we have had the hotel now for 20 years - so that proves how much we love doing what we do. We are situated in the heart of south west Scotland in  Dumfries and Galloway, providing a touch of laid back luxury in the midst of the beautiful countryside of the Nith Valley. From our organic micro spa with its holisitc treaments and exclusive use outdoor sauna and wood fired hot tub, to our very own local guide book including walks and stunning places to visit in the local area there is plenty to see and do on any visit, and because we are one of the most dog friendly Hotels in the UK your four legged friend is welcome too.  Our food has won us many loyal customers and is locally sourced and  all homemade, and is perfectly matched with a wonderful wine and cocktail list to tempt you with during your stay.
