The fact that the Three Chimneys has been voted in the world’s top 20 restaurants is a remarkable achievement, Shirley Spear and her husband Eddie took these old crofters' cottages on the waterfront in a remote corner of the Isle of Skye, and, through a mixture of sheer determination and excellent self-taught cooking, forged their way on to the culinary map. At the heart of their success is the genuinely local seasonal produce they use, right down to the local flowers they deploy in some dishes. They no longer own the restaurant, but it's still a marvellous place to eat, and indeed to stay, in one of 6 lovely suites with sea views, flatscreen TVs, wifi , Bluetooth and lovely bathrooms. A table is automatically guaranteed upon booking – and you really couldn’t do much better if you were looking for a short break to celebrate a special occasion.
