Bank House Farm Hostel
UK England North East England North Yorkshire
Is it the off-the-beaten-track location on a working organic farm? The good-value bunkhouse accommodation? The trampoline with glorious views as you bounce? It's all three and more at Chris and Emma's wonderfully sited Bank House Farm, whose old cart-shed has been revamped as upmarket hiker-friendly accommodation (the Coast-to-Coast footpath passes by). There are eleven beds in one upstairs dormitory, available by the bed during the week, but whole-house only at weekends (it's great for family and friends get-togethers), with underfloor heating, decent showers, a modern kitchen and lounge, and loads of outdoor space to round things off – and you just need to bring sleeping bag/duvet and towels. There's also B&B available in the farmhouse (one double room and two other rooms each with bunk beds, plus shared bathroom), and even camping for small tents for overnight hikers. A more accommodating place is hard to find, whether it's the home-reared beef and lamb and the breakfast goodies available direct from the farm, or the lifts they provide to the pub (the nearest is two and a half miles away, in the small village of Glaisdale). And here's the clincher – remote it might seem, but Tesco's deliver to the door, so you can make full use of the kitchen without, well, taking the proverbial kitchen sink. Oh, and it's dog-friendly too.
