Come between April and early May you might be lucky enough to see a lamb being born from your very tent.

A former glamping site that has shunned the frills to return to good ol' fashioned camping, Park Farm is place that knows a thing or two about hospitality. Bring your own tent to enjoy spectacular views, a peaceful meadow location and bucket loads of space but still expect a few handy luxuries. Every pitch has its own 'en-suite' toilet – a proper flushing loo housed inside a wooden structure next to your tent space – and you'll also find a picnic bench, campfire pit and a pair of the friendliest campsite owners in Oxfordshire.

Details

Facilities

The main, exclusive campsite has nine pitches, each with a private toilet with wash basin and cold running water, a standpipe for drinking water, a campfire pit (wood available to purchase) and picnic bench. There are no electrical hook-ups and car parking is in the farmyard to keep the meadow traffic-free (wheelbarrows are provided to transport luggage). For these pitches, there are five showers in a block (including two larger, family-sized cubicles) with underfloor heating, a hair dryer, shaving points and one further toilet – note, these are not available to campers in the summer wild camping site. There's a covered washing up area and charging lockers for valuables and small devices (bring your own padlock). A small honesty shop sells essentials and has a communal fridge and a freezer.

Separately, the nine-acre, summer-only, 'wild camping' meadow is different from the main site and more basic. Each pitch has access to its own private, designated, portable toilet located close to the meadow entrance. A stand pipe provides water for washing up and drinking but there are no showers.

Suitable For

Tents – yes. Caravans, campervans, dogs – no. Large groups are not permitted unless hiring the entire site.

Nearby

Viewing your surroundings is always a good way to start. Faringdon Folly Tower, a unique 100ft tower built by the eccentric Lord Berners in the 1930s, offers fantastic panoramas of the Thames Valley and, a mile or so further north, Radcot Bridge and Lock is a wonderful spot to stop for a picnic after. It's the oldest bridge across the Thames and was the scene of many battles, today, away from the lock itself, this area of the river is also particularly popular for wild swimming. To the south lies Uffington: home to the famous white horse; a hill figure carved into the chalk escarpment and thought to date back to 1000BC. For more farm fun, kids love Roves Farm (01793 763939) in nearby Sevenhampton, which has daily animal handling and feedings, as well as tractor rides and more. For something more exotic, spot rhinos, giraffes and zebras at Cotswold Wildlife Park (01993 823006), 25 minutes away. The dreamy spires of Oxford are also an easy 30-minute drive. Spend a day exploring its 38 colleges, pop into the various museums and visit the labyrinth of boutique shops in the covered market. And, if the weather's good, indulge in a spot of punting (01865 515978).

The Owner Says

Park Farm is a 370 acre mixed arable and sheep farm nestling on the edge of the picturesque village of Littleworth. With just seven pitches across the site, it's not somewhere you're short of space and, if you come between April and early May, you might be lucky enough to see a lamb being born from your very tent. There's great walking from the farm, with the historic market town of Faringdon and the Thames at Radcot both within an easy half-day jaunt. Just 20 minutes downstream, is where the Thames meets the Isis, overlooked by the dreaming spires of Oxford – a haven for history buffs and keen shoppers alike. The river's graceful willows and lush pastures are a far cry from the busy riverbanks in London, which is just an hour and a half's drive away.
