Crown Post Suite
In the heart of historic Lavenham, this is as luxurious and self-contained a B&B room as you will find.Part of the excellent Number Ten restaurant and wine bar in the tourist honeypot of Lavenham, Suffolk, this two-person suite is a bit of a find. Not only is it bang in the middle of Suffolk's most historic town, it occupies one of its most historic buildings too, an ancient timbered affair whose two-storey apartment is about as luxurious and self-contained a B&B room as you will find anywhere. It would be a sizeable place for a couple to live in, let alone spend a night or two, with a small kitchen and comfy sitting room with a TV downstairs and a bedroom and en-suite bathroom on the floor above. We love the fabulously timbered main bedroom, with its comfy king-size bed and scattering of easy chairs, not to mention the sumptuous bathroom, which is huge, recently re-furbished in a contemporary style and equipped with a bath and separate shower, toiletries and more, while still retaining its unique timbered charm.
Everything in the suite is beautifully presented. The kitchen has a fridge, but is only equipped with a kettle and toaster so it's not really up to proper self-catering, but it's nice to be able to make a cup of tea with fresh milk, and just generally enjoy the space and character this unique B&B option has to offer – plus they provide a welcome hamper which contains local bread, cereals, preserves and juice as well as other snacks. Parking is available, the wifi is good, and the suite even has its own walled garden and patio, complete with garden furniture, which makes for a lovely, secluded place to spend a summer evening – plus of course you have the restaurant on hand, which is a handy place for lunch, dinner or just a glass of wine before bedtime. The street outside is peaceful enough, despite being just off Lavenham's main street – indeed you're tucked away behind the town's renowned Swan Hotel, whose rooms are frankly no better but around twice the price. Lavenham itself has lots to see, and is perfectly positioned for exploring the best of inland Suffolk – really, like their friends at Lavenham Priory across the road (with whom they often share guests), it's a perfect place to spend a weekend break, in one of East Anglia's most beautiful small towns.
