Watermouth Berrynarbor Ilfracombe EX34 9SJ 01271 866 862
Small-scale with a friendly rustic vibe, this is the sort of low-key campsite that creates sunny childhood memories. Each of the 50 pitches enjoys some of the most stupendous sea-views you’ll experience under canvas (or while washing up come to that), and the facilities, though simple, are both faultless and spotless. The terracing helps create privacy at this unassuming, environmentally friendly campsite, all set in a beautifully kept organic farm. The peaceful atmosphere is partly down to their policy on dwelling size, the campsite owners actively discouraging mega-size tents, massive motorhomes and noisy groups. Its a simple but effective place, though be warned, it fills up quick in summer.
I love this little campsite, high on the cliffs, close to Ilfracombe. Don’t think Ilfracombe is cool? Believe me, it’s up and coming. Damien Hirst has a hotel/restaurant/bar café overlooking the beautiful harbour. The Tunnels Beaches are a great place to spend a sunny afternoon, swimming in the tidal pools. Little Meadow is a magical little campsite, the terraced pitches afford fabulous views. We even saw dolphins as we did our dishes! The shower and toilet facilities are good. There is free table tennis. A few items stocked in the office come shop. Come here for the peace and the views, its simplicity is its appeal. We loved it.
