Morte Point

Mortehoe EX34 7DT

We say

Park in Mortehoe to embark on a six-mile circular walk through coast and country. It crosses fields to reach Lee, then returns on the South-West Coast Path along the spectacularly jagged coastline around Morte Point. Even if the name ‘morte’ is Saxon (meaning 'stumpy’), the Norman French translation (‘death’) is apt for a coast that has claimed numerous ships. Pubs provide lunch and refreshment in both villages. The route is covered by OS Explorer map 139.

North Devon's deadly coast ★★★★★

This is a great route that follows in the footsteps of smugglers and wreckers on the north Devon coast. More information about what to look out for along this route see
