A neighbourhood hotel and restaurant that puts a bit of bohemian, boutique glamour into a swish area west of the city centre. The building looks out over Bruntsfield Links park, with lots of indie cafés, restaurants and shops nearby. The park-view doubles and suites have the best outlook through big bay windows, but whatever size of room or aspect you plump for, you’re getting the hotel’s signature statement beds, handsome fabrics and furnishings, and all sorts of little extras – from flavoured teas to fancy toiletries.
The bar and park-view terrace (open daily until 1am) is a popular spot, and the Conservatory restaurant is a stunner of a space. This is one neighbourhood joint you’ll be happy to linger in, from breakfast through to late-night drinks. Parking is unusually handy too – on-street right outside and in nearby streets, that’s free overnight and at weekends. And though you seem a million miles away from the centre’s bustle, it’s only 20 minutes on foot across the parks to the National Museum or 25 minutes to the castle.
