48 Princes Street Edinburgh EH2 2YJ 0844 800 3725
The grande dame of Princes Street, now hemmed in by upstart chains and itself under the proprietorship of House of Fraser, this classic department store has been around since 1838. The attractive central atrium is ringed by sections devoted to international designer labels and upmarket brands, offering a varied, if not particularly original shopping experience. The food hall is run by Valvona & Crolla, with an accompanying café offering grandstand views over Princes Street Gardens and the Old Town skyline.
As far as I'm concerned, this stopped being Jenners the day House of Fraser took over. However if you want House of Fraser in a rambling, gorgeous, old-fashioned institution of a building, this is the place for you. And it does have a great foodhall, and it's fun to mingle with the Edinburgh ladies who lunch in the cafe. Staff are unfailingly helpful and polite in my experience, and the whole place retains some of its old charm despite just being another outpost of a large chainstore. It's impossible to miss, sitting as it does in the middle of Princes Street looking out over the gardens.
