A classy independent hostel in the heart of the Lake District.

Grasmere Independent Hostel

Broadrayne Farm Grasmere LA22 9RU 01539 435 055

We say

Backpackers and hikers rarely get it as good as this – Grasmere’s indie farmhouse hostel pampers budget travellers with tons of the right stuff, from panoramic lounge to on-site sauna. En-suite bunkrooms are small and cosy – there’s one on the top floor with a private bathroom that sleeps two to three people – while on the ground floor you get a large professionally equipped kitchen plus laundry and drying room. The nearest pub is a few hundred yards down the road, or Grasmere village is ten minutes’ walk away, and the glorious mountains are all around. Plus they have their own, rather lovely glamping site too!

They say

We are the only 4 star independent hostel in the Lake District and are ranked number 1 'Speciality Lodging' in Grasmere by TripAdvisor. We are situated on Broadrayne Farm, set in 10 acres of grazing land, which is located in the very heart of the Lake District National Park. Public transport runs right past our door but we also have plenty of parking. However, you won't need your car when you get here, as hiking can be done straight from our door.

Our facilities include en-suite rooms, free WiFi to all rooms, Internet PC, secure bike store, self-catering kitchens, large LCD TV & DVD, sauna, drying room, laundry area and large BBQ area.

Our aim is to be as environmentally friendly as possible. All our heating and hot water is supplied by our Woodchip Biomass boiler system and we have LED lighting throughout. We recycle as much as possible and have free range chickens and ducks wandering around the farm too.

Getting There

From the south, leave the M6 at junction 36 and join the A590 to Windermere – this becomes the A591 after a few miles. Drive past Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere right to Grasmere Glamping, just over a mile north of Grasmere village. From the north, leave the M6 at junction 40 and travel west along the A66 to Threlkeld, turn left onto the B5322 and travel south to the A591. Turn left towards Windermere, past the Kings Head Hotel and Thirlmere Lake, and Grasmere Glamping is at the bottom of the long hill that brings you down into Grasmere valley. There are main line rail services to Oxenholme, and connecting services from there to Windermere – from where 556 and 599 buses go to Grasmere, and the 555 drops you off almost at the door. National Express also operates a daily coach service from London, Milton Keynes, Coventry & Birmingham to Grasmere.
