A decade-long restoration project has renewed this listed Georgian manor for guests who enjoy the finer things in life. Antique furniture, artwork and decadent decor are everywhere in this elegant house, which offers bed and breakfast stays in luxurious suites for adults and their dogs. That’s right – this place is uber-dog-friendly. So much so that while you’re enjoying a drink on arrival, your pooch can tuck into their welcome meal and wash it down with Pawsecco! There’s the cutting edge (pun intended) Groom Room – a proper hairdresser for hounds that would put most salons to shame. You can pamper your pooch in style here after walks in the 30-acre grounds or adventures on the beaches of nearby Cardigan Bay. Professional groomers can even be for a cut and blow dry. It’s rare to find a UK dog-friendly stay quite as luxurious.

Plas Llangoedmor's front door sets the tone for your stay, flanked by tall Georgian columns and two canine marble statues. Inside, there’s an impressive hallway that leads to the dog-friendly downstairs spaces – a drawing room with a grand piano and fireplace, a library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a dining room with chandeliers and herringbone teak floor. Neat bijou gym aside, it all feels like another era, but is polished and finessed to feel new – something that's helped along by the contemporary art on the walls.

There are four suites in the house, each named after former residents of this palatial pad ('plas' means palace), and each has something different to recommend it. Choose The Berrington Davies Suite, for example, and you’ll have a bathroom that’s as stand-out as the bedroom. There’s a huge mahogany sleigh bed to sleep in, and a free-standing nickel tub to bathe in. The top-floor Lloyd Suite offers Designer’s Guild wallpaper beneath exposed Tudor timbers, while the silver-coloured Millingchamp Suite has a fascinating history that’s etched in its stained-glass bay window. Finally, the Vaughan Suite has the best double-aspect views in the house, looking out over the Victorian water garden and down towards Cardigan.

That’s what you’ll be off to explore after a Welsh breakfast with ingredients from the estate’s kitchen garden. Cardigan itself is just a mile down the road and the beaches of Cardigan Bay are just a little further. You can take the dog to Poppit Sands or enjoy a boat trip to see bottlenose dolphins. The Wales Coast Path offers endless walking which, like your accommodation, is as enjoyable for your dog as it is for you!
