Orchard Campsite

Just outside Wickham Market, this family-owned and run campsite has been going 20 years, under the careful auspices of father-and-son team Alan and Stuart. It was voted ‘campsite of the year’ in 2010 by the readers of Camping magazine, and is a great, family friendly site, set among meadows and woodland that stretch down to the banks of the Deben river. It has 60 pitches (20 with electrical hook-ups) and unusually allows campfires; you can fill up a big wheelbarrow load of firewood from the heap by the shop for £15. It also has 8 pre-erected tents for hire as well as two gypsy caravans in the trees and B&B in the main house, and there’s virtually free wifi that works across much of the site. There's a children's play area, table tennis, even an observatory for starlit nights, and the shop sells more brands of beer than you can shake a stick at… indeed the well-stocked shop can even do you a Jaeger shot, although it;s equally good on bread, milk and basics, plus rare breed meat, steak and sausages to cook up on those roaring fires.
