Pump Street Bakery

1 Pump St Orford IP12 2LZ 01394 459 829

We say

We love the Pump Street Bakery, a small, family-owned and -run rustic local bakery that is at the heart of the Suffolk's food revival. It's a pity they're not open every day (as maybe a bakery should be), but when you bake bread and pastries this good maybe you're entitled to put your feet up occasionally. Anyway it's much more than a bread shop, serving lunches and weekend brunch dishes at a communal table in their rustic dining room, or in a small courtyard outside.  Brunch includes a choice of buttermilk pancakes, French toast and fruit, while lunches can take in anything from soup to salads and sandwiches or hearty stews.

Good and bad ★★☆☆☆

Delight turned to disappointment on visiting the Pump Street Bakery today. When I first saw the sign for the bakery, my heart did a little jump! The shop is really nicely laid out and the breads all looked delicious. I only wanted a snack so bought two Eccles cakes. The bread seemed reasonably priced for artisan bakes so wasn't prepared for the shock that they cost £3.60. Unfortunately they did not live up to expectations. Sickly over sweet content, and sugar seeped out of the pastry casing. could not get beyond eating half. Poor value for money.
