You couldn't come up with a better location than this riverside pub in the Norfolk Broads. Situated in the popular village of Coltishall, on the eastern fringes of the Broads National Park. The Rising Sun sits bang on the river Bure, and is popular with locals and visitors alike as a place to drink, eat and – if you're lucky enough – to stay overnight in one of its 3 boutique guest bedrooms.
Two of the pub's three rooms are spacious doubles or twins, tastefully furnished in neutral tones and provided with decent-sized bathrooms with either walk-in showers or bath/showers. The third is a family-sized room with a double bed and bunk beds, a Juliet balcony and its own separate entrance. All of the rooms enjoy beautiful views over the river, and it's very soothing to watch the boats drift by and spot the occasional heron or the other wildlife that inhabits the upper reaches of the Bure. Rates include an excellent breakfast and they also serve a good value pub food menu. You can also eat at their sister pub, The Recruiting Sergeant, 10 minutes walk away on the other side of the village, which is known for its food, and there are lots of other food and drink options in Wroxham, Horning and other nearby villages.
Coltishall itself is a pleasant village, and a great place from which to explore the Broads National Park. There are lots of walks and cycle rides you can do nearby, including picking up the Bure Valley Path to Aylsham (in one direction) or Wroxham (in the other), and loads of places to hire boats or canoes to explore the Broads, which are best enjoyed on the water. Other attractions, like Blickling Hall or even the North Norfolk Coast, are also just a short drive away.
