'Something for everyone' might be an overused phrase, but it's spot on for the group of luxury, self-catering holiday cottages that make up Alkington Grange Barns, set among hedgerows and oak trees in the heart of stunning Shropshire countryside. For a start, the location suits all kinds of activities and adventures – close to the charming market town of Whitchurch, itself just a couple of miles from the Welsh border, and within easy range of days out to places such as Chester Zoo, the woodland park at Bewilderwood or the historic Ironbridge Gorge. Walks on the doorstep include the Shropshire Way and Whixall Walks, running straight through the farm, while the Shropshire Union Canal is less than a mile from the site.
Then there are the cottages themselves – five lovingly converted Georgian barns of differing sizes, sleeping between two and twelve people, which makes this a great choice for an extended family and friends get-togethers. The largest have two family bathrooms plus extra en-suites, so can easily cater for bigger groups with different needs; two of them have wood burners (Oliver's Mill and William's Hayloft), and three of the cottages are dog-friendly too. The old beams and brickwork have been retained where possible, and the decor throughout is bright, cheery and modern. You can also expect all the high-spec facilities you need for a family holiday, from well-equipped kitchens to cosy lounges with big TVs, Blue-Ray players and the like. Enclosed patios and gardens provide private outdoor dining and play space for each property – or enjoy a relaxed chill-out at one of the three brick-built barbecues in the grounds.
It gets even better, though, since the grounds at Alkington Grange also feature an amazing array of facilities, starting with a heated indoor swimming pool that can be booked for exclusive use. There's a multi-sports court for football, tennis and basketball, a super under-five's play area, and, in high season, there's a family-friendly cricket area. The woodland picnic and wildlife area on the farm grounds are a really popular family haunt. There are also areas for bird-watching – a resident kingfisher feeds from the pond – and star-gazing in these deep, dark, rural skies. Everyone really should be able to find their special 'something' here, even a pampering facial or massage or a bespoke afternoon tea, delivered to your cottage door.

We have 5 cottages on site, all of them are modern barn conversions keeping some of the traditional barn features, set around a court yard and with fields & country walks just on your doorstep. We are just a short drive to our local Market town of Whitchurch, just 40mins from the Historic town of Chester & right of the border of Wales. Within a short drive we have the internationally acclaimed Chester Zoo, the wonderful Bewilderwood, the family friendly Park Hall Farm, for the adventurous visit Hawkstone Follies, water fun at Alderford Lake with their large Inflatable Aqua Park & water activities, meet the dinosaurs at Hoo Farm, great wet weather day painting pottery at Doodle Alley, tire out the kids what ever age they are at The Crocky Trail, RAF Cosford is an incredible day and FREE to get in, we have several National Trust properties close by including Attingham Park & Erddig, experience the wonders of the SSSI at the Iron Bridge Gorge, walk in another SSSI at Fenns & Whixall Mosses or Brown Moss, visit Shrewsbury Prison if you want to be tested in a Panic Room or enjoy a Ghost Tour........... If you are looking for Family Friendly Holiday Accommodation, a Group Get Away, wanting to Celebrate a Special Occasion or, just wanting to Unwind, there’s something for everyone to enjoy here at Alkington Grange Barns, located in the beautiful Shropshire Countryside. We have 5 stunning Self Catering Holiday Cottages of varying sizes, sleeping from 2 to 12 people to choose from and 3 Pet Friendly cottage as well. We have lots of onsite facilities, that are included in the price. They are shared but you book for your own exclusive use, including Indoor Pool, Multi Sports Court, Under 5's Play Area, Woodland Picnic Site, BBQ's, Bike Store, Bird Watching & Star Gazing areas and on site parking and WIFI. This is a family run business, we live onsite and try hard to make sure everyone enjoys their stay with us.

Directions:
From Shrewsbury follow the A49 to Whitchurch. At the roundabout take 2nd exit signposted Whitchurch. Immediately filter off dual carriage way to the Left signposted 'Tilstock'.
Follow the road through the village, bear to the left at the fork in the road and then turn Right onto the B5476. Take first left onto 'Hollins Lane'. At the end of the lane turn Left signposted 'North Wood' and follow for approximately 500yrds and you will see the barns on your RIGHT hand side with a large back gate with a black & white sign saying "Alkington Grange Barns". Please turn in and up into the car park.
From Telford arrive at Tern Hill roundabout and take first exit onto A41. At the next roundabout take third exit to Whitchurch and filter off to the left to Tilstock. Follow above directions:
From Chester follow the A41 to Whitchurch and then turn onto the B5476 signposted Wem. Take the first right hand turn onto 'Hollins Lane' and follow directions as above:
