If you’re looking for something more grown-up, head straight up to The Penthouse, a top-story apartment reserved for just two guests and perfect for romantic retreats. Once occupied by Sir Ian McKellan no less, its spacious balcony has lovely views of the river.

For more space, there are split-level, three-bedroomed apartments in which flexible bedrooms have the capability of being designed as twins or doubles with king-size beds. Whichever you choose, you’ll have WiFi, Smart TVs and a kitchenette that’s well equipped. It’s a short uphill walk from your apartment to reach Richmond’s cobbled Market Place. There’s a market here on Wednesdays and Saturdays but the elegant Georgian buildings, independent shops and eateries are a fixture. Likewise, Richmond Castle, which has been here since Norman times and is just a little older than Easby Abbey, which is a pleasant 35-minute walk away.
