A delectable little shop that feels like an independent but is in fact part of a chain, Mr Simms Olde Sweet Shoppe does what it says on the tin – sells confectionery done the traditional way. That is to say, jar upon jar of every conceivable type of sweet, ranging from childhood classics such as rhubarb and custard, dandelion and burdock crystals and sherbert dip to every type of chocolate you can imagine. The franchise may have only opened in 2004 but the design harks back to an era when penny sweets were served in paper bags and affable shopkeepers were friendly confectionery connoisseurs. And, hey, it's nice to have them back..
