Whether you're scheming a hike in the Himalaya or walking the Cotswold Way (which starts, incidentally, in Bath), Itchy Feet is the place to kit up. This cheery yellow store, squeezed into lovely Bartlett Street, is packed with outdoorsy paraphernalia – fleeces, boots, travel guides, camping kit, backpacks and much more. Big brands are stocked – The North Face, Patagonia, Icebreaker, Salomon... – plus little-known but excellent others. Best of all, though, the staff know their stuff: ask a question about trainer lug, wicking levels or pole extension and you'll get an expert answer.
