Eco-chic and barista coffee in Northumberland National Park.
Boe Rigg Charlton Bellingham NE48 1PE 01434 240 294
Shed? Or Scandinavian-style, open-space, contemporary café? We tend towards the latter, but love the ethos, attitude and retro vibe at über-cool Boe Rigg, the fabulous campsite and bunkhouse a couple of miles outside Bellingham. Their on-site caff is just as striking as the rest of their little eco-empire, set on a grassy mound, with soaring windows overlooking the site. It's a real slice of country cool for campers and walkers, serving great coffee, drinks and locally sourced food, from gourmet sandwiches and handmade burgers to smoked chicken and deli platters. They support local artists, makers and growers, which means a lot of nice stuff to look at and buy, from fresh-baked bread to original art. And activities, events, workshops and gigs bring people up the valley to spend a bit of time in this amazing corner of Northumberland. It's absolutely the best place for a cappuccino and a cake if you're en route to Kielder – don't miss it.
