York's City Screen is a great little indie cinema and café-bar – far better to see a film here than schelp out of town to one of the mega-screens in the 'burbs. You get all the latest releases in any case, but also a full diet of art-house movies as well as live opera and National Theatre productions beamed via satellite, plus a weekly comedy club and other events in 'The Basement', below the cinema. What's more it's situated right on the river, with a café-bar that has the best terrace in the city – the perfect place to chill out before or after your film.
