It doesn’t look much from the outside, but the Recruiting Sergeant is one of the best places to eat in the Coltishall/Wroxham area, whether you eat in the cosy yet contemporary interior or out in the peaceful back garden. They do a full menu at lunch or dinner, as well as a snackier affair at lunchtime – fishcakes, steak sandwiches, and suchlike. Choose from substantial starters like scallops with pork belly and grilled sardines and mains like fresh local mackerel with salad nicoise, excellent skate wing, smoked haddock or just fish pie or a burger. Beers are mostly local (Suffolk and Norfolk ales), and service friendly and efficient, and most of the ingredients are sourced locally – some of them from their sister business, Farm to Fork & Fish, across the road. They also have series of beautifully furnished rooms upstairs, giving you somewhere to stagger off to once you've eaten (and drunk) your fill.
