Two beautifully furnished self-catering cottages in the Norfolk Broads National Park that make the perfect eco-friendly break.

There’s a sense of peace at East View Farm that makes it’s hard to believe you’re only a dozen miles from Norwich. But the Pond family's two holiday cottages are the epitome of rural tranquility, in the heart of the Norfolk Broads National Park. The property has been in the family since Jane’s father bought the farmhouse in the 1930s, and restored it from a wreck to the picture-postcard property you see today. Since then Jane and her husband have converted the beamed barn and stables to two pristine cottages, one sleeping two, the other six, and installed their own wind turbine in the grounds to provide much of their power – indeed they strive hard to be as self-sufficient as possible, recycling pretty much everything and installing low-energy and energy-saving alternatives in the well-equipped cottages.
It’s a delightful place to stay. The gardens are lovely and the roads around are mostly super-peaceful rural lanes that are ideal for cycling and walking. You're also a short distance from the popular nearby family theme park of Bewilderwood and just a couple of miles north of the boating mecca of Wroxham, where you can hire day boats and canoes to explore the river. Jane is a mine of information on the area, and as an added bonus your kids might be lucky enough to ride on the fabulous miniature railway that her husband and his train-mad mates have installed in the back garden – a wondrous sight in its own right, and just another thing that make East View Farm Cottages unique. All in all one of the best self-catering places to stay in the Norfolk Broads National Park.
