Tankerton Beach
East of town
Tankerton Beach stretches east from Whitstable towards Herne Bay; busy at first with the beach huts on Tankerton Slopes – great for kids to run up and down – but increasingly deserted the further you head away from Whitstable. This is a good place to head at low tide, as not only can you stroll out along the sandy spit known as the Street, but there’s far less mud here and you can swim most of the time. The path behind the beach is a popular place to walk or cycle (though this is not really allowed), ultimately taking you all the way to Herne Bay and beyond.
