St James Tavern

3 Romsey Road Winchester Hampshire SO22 5BE 01962 861 288

We say

Running a pub is not rocket science but it's an easy thing to get wrong. At the St James Tavern they focus on doing the simple things well, serving a good choice of well-kept ales and a good wine list, decent food at lunch and in the evening and offering a simple cosy, environment for punters to enjoy all those things. Children and dogs are welcome, and there's a childrens menu too, so you can drop in on your own for a pint, or with your family for lunch or dinner: a proper 21st-century pub in fact. They serve a deliberately simple lunch menu – ham, egg and chips, burgers, sausage and mash, etc – and sandwiches; the dinner menu is slightly more ambitious, with sharing platters and big steaks, and they also run regular Curry Nights and Pie Nights to tempt you. With brunch on Saturdays (lots of yummy eggy specials) and roasts on Sundays, they've got all the food bases covered.

They say

The St. James Tavern, or the SJT as we are known to our locals and regulars, is a proper pub with traditional cask marque recognised beers and proper pub food. We’re all about the ‘proper’. Mix in some interesting bits and bobs, some funky lighting and some groovy tunes, and hopefully you’ll like it lots and become SJT “regulars”… we want to provide you with the best a “proper” pub can offer.

We are a pub who are proud to be just that, a pub.  We are a great little boozer with scrummy food and well kept ales to keep your whiskers wet and your belly full!

We welcome your little tots and furry friends (the well behaved ones of course!). We don’t have any high chairs, nor do we offer a children’s menu, though feel free to come down and enjoy an adult beverage and scrumptious lunch or dinner with your family - be it a little one or your canine friend.

We have a quiz night on a Tuesday that could rival Mensa, a delicious brunch menu for a lazy Saturday morning, and regular pie nights and curry nights. Told you we were “proper”!
